Eagles Close Captains Classic With Wins over Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Marymount

Marie Gonsar was named to the Captain's Classic All-Tournament Team after she helped JC to a 2-1 record over the weekend.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.-The Juniata women's volleyball team nabbed a pair of victories on Saturday as they swept #3 Wisconsin-Eau Claire 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-21) before closing the weekend with a 3-1 win over Marymount (25-19, 19-25, 25-14, 25-21) Saturday at the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport.  

Marie Gonsar (New Castle, Pa. / Shenango H.S.) and Emma Davis (East Berlin, Pa / Dover Area HS) were both named to the Captain's Classic All-Tournament Team for their strong performances over the weekend.  

Against Wisconsin-Eau, Gonsar led the way with 12 kills (.345), 10 digs and a solo block. Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) tallied seven kills, two digs, and two solo blocks while Morgan Edwards (Lancaster, Pa. / Penn Manor) amassed six kills (.357), two digs and two solo blocks. Davis totaled seven kills (.333), a dig, a solo block, and a block assist. Sophia Gingrich (Minneapolis, Minn. / Minneapolis Southwest H.S.) tallied 15 digs, three aces, and two digs. Makenna Hallager (Glenolden, Pa. / Merion Mercy Academy) had 14 digs and an ace while Moira Folan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic HS) added 35 assists, five digs, an ace, and a block assist.  

In the game against Marymount, Kailyn Pyle (Reading, Pa. / Liberty HS)had eight kills (.353), a dig, four solo blocks, and three block assists while Gonsar tallied 11 kills, an ace, 13 digs, and a block assist. Davis added nine kills(.368), two aces, three digs and a solo block with Taylor notching nine kills (.318) of her own to go with a dig and a block assist. Aly Reardon (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West HS) totaled 14 digs while Folan put up 46 assists, nine digs, two aces, and a solo block. 

Juniata returns home to host the ASICS Invitational, where they will first play Ithaca at 7:30 on Friday.
