Women's Volleyball Moves up to 13th in AVCA Poll

Women's volleyball players Katie Byrne and Dejia Danhi helped the Eagles move up in the AVCA poll.

LEXINGTON, Ky.- The Juniata women's volleyball team is ranked 13th in this week's AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll after being ranked 15th in last week's poll. 

Over the weekend the Eagles hosted the 26th annual ASICS Tournament where they faced ranked teams Wittenberg and Carnegie Mellon. On Friday, Juniata defeated Chistopher Newport, 3-0 who is now ranked 23rd in the poll. On Saturday, they fell, 3-2 to No. 4 Wittenberg but defeated Carnegie Mellon, 3-1. Katie Byrne (Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) and Dejia Danhi (Ashburn, Va. / Stone Bridge) were both named to the All-Tournament team. Danhi was also named the Landmark Athlete of the Week. Across the three matches, Danhi totaled 30 kills, 15 total blocks, and four service aces. She also averaged a .426 hitting percentage. Byrne totaled 44 digs across the three matches. 

As a team the Eagles totaled 148 kills, 140 assists, 157 digs, and 23 total blocks. 

This weekend the Eagles will face three ranked teams in Claremont, Calif. On Friday they will play No. 12 Washington-St.Louis and No. 6 Emory, and on Saturday, No. 15 Cal Lutheran.
