HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's volleyball team ended the 26th annual ASICS Tournament with 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15) victory over Carnegie Mellon, Saturday evening in Memorial Gymnasium.

All Tournament Team- Katie Byrne (Juniata), Aubrey Cox (Wittenberg), Dejia Danhi (Juniata), Riley Garrison (Christopher Newport), Katie Piper (Christopher Newport), Sarah Jurgens (Carnegie Mellon) and Taylor Yontz (Wittenberg). 

Set one saw the teams trade the lead back and forth as neither led by more than three at any point. Juniata wound up down 23-24, but the Eagles managed to climb all the way back as Marybeth Weihbrecht (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del./Delaware Military Academy) tallied the final two kills of the set to give JC the 26-24 set one win.

Set two saw the Tartans grab a 12-7 lead early. Two Weihbrecht kills and one from Marie Gonsar (New Castle, Pa./Shenango H.S.) paired with a Tartans attacked error got the Eagles within one at 11-12. Later, a Taylor block and kill pulled Juniata even at 17-17. Carnegie Mellon controlled the rest of the set as they wound up winning 25-21. 

Early in the third set with the score at 4-4, JC opened up a lead with a 7-0 surge. Weihbrecht tallied two kills while Gonsar and Moira Folan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) each added one during the run. The Tartans managed to get back in the match, eventually getting within two at 23-21. But one more Weihbrecht kill and a Carnegie Mellon attack error gave JC set three, 25-21.

The fourth set was tight as the Tartans tried to force a fifth set. With the score at 15-13, JC called timeout. The Eagles came soaring out of the time out. With back to back kills from Dejia Danhi (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) and Weihbrecht along with two straight Danhi aces forced the Tartans to call time. Carnegie Mellon managed to take the next two points, but those were their final points of the match. A kill from Weihbrecht and three straight kills from Gonsar gave JC match point and a Sophia Gingrich (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest H.S) ace ended it. 

Byrne and Danhi were both named to the all-tournament team. 

Juniata will face Washington (Mo.) on the West Coast in the East-West Challenge, Friday at 3:15 P.M.
