Women's volleyball moves up to 15th in AVCA poll

LEXINGTON, Ky.- The Juniata women's volleyball team is ranked 15th in this week's AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll after being ranked 17th in the AVCA preseason poll.

Over the weekend the Eagles traveled to Ithaca for the Ithaca Bomber Invitational where they faced ranked teams Calvin and Ithaca. On Friday, Juniata defeated Stevens 3-1. Marybeth Weihbrecht (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley), Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del. / Delaware Military Academy), and Morgan Edwards (Lancaster, Pa. / Penn Manor) all had 13 kills while Katie Byrne (Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) recorded 16 digs. On Saturday, the Eagles dropped matches against Calvin and Ithaca both in five sets. Against Calvin, Taylor tallied 19 kills, Moira Folan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic HS) totaled 29 assists and Byrne totaled 24 digs. In the match against Ithaca, Edwards tallied 17 kills, Folan recorded 42 assists, and Byrne totaled 20 digs. In the preseason poll Calvin was ranked second and Ithaca was ranked eighth. In week one, Ithaca is now ranked seventh and Calvin is ranked first. 

The Eagles will start off their weekend on Friday as they will host the Asics Invitational. On Friday, they will face Christopher Newport at 7:00PM.
