OWINGS MILLS, Md.- The Juniata women's volleyball team split a pair of matches, defeating Washington and Lee before falling to Stevenson, Saturday afternoon at Owings Mills Gym.

Marybeth Weihbrecht (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had 19 kills and five block assists across the two matches while Megan Moroney (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) had 13 kills five block assists and a solo block. Katie Thomas (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) totaled 47 assist and Katie Byrne (Annapolis Md./Broadneck) had 40 digs and two aces. Tatum Poirier (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) did a bit of everything on her way to nine kills, 15 digs, three block assists and an ace over the two matches. Korin Koehler (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) totaled five aces and 16 digs.

The Eagles came flying out to start, scoring the first seven points of the match behind three Koehler aces and three Morgan Edwards (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) kills. Juniata continued to dominated the set, wining 25-13.

The second set was a much tighter affair, and an error by the Eagles made it 20-17. Two kills from Weihbrecht made it 22-17. A quick flurry from the Generals made it 23-20. Another Weihbrecht kill made it 24-20, and a block from Dejia Danhi (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) and Moroney gave the Eagles set two.

Washington and Lee jumped out to a 2-6 lead before Juniata ripped off an 8-0 run to make it 10-6. It was a battle from there, with the teams tying at eight times over the final set with the penultimate tie at 23-23. Edwards mashed a kill off an assist from K. Thomas and a General attack error ended the match. 

The second match against Stevenson was even early, with a kill from Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del./Delaware Military Academy) tying the score at 10-10. The Mustangs took control from there, with a 10-3 push putting them ahead 13-20. The Eagles didn't quit, as kills from Poirier and Taylor, a Poirier ace and a Mustang error brought the eagles within four at 17-21. Stevenson captured the next two points before Moroney put down a kill to make it 18-23. The Mustangs scored to make it set point and after an attacking error made it 19-24 closed the set with a kill to win 20-25.

The Mustangs leapt out to a 1-7 lead early in the second set and forced a Juniata timeout. The Eagles closed the game to five twice, via a Weihbrecht kill to make it 5-10. Later, a Katie Byrne ace made it 18-23, but that was as close as Juniata could get as Stevenson won 18-25.

Juniata fell behind early in the third set and couldn't recover as Stevenson cruised to victory, 25-13. 

The Eagles are now 15-5 and will play at Johns Hopkins, Friday at 7:00.
