Juniata Completes a Sweep at Chicago Invite

Chicago, Ill. - In day two of the Chicago Invite on Saturday, Oct. 8, Juniata women's volleyball walked away with a 3-1 victory. The Eagles defeated University of Chicago 25-17, 20-25, 25-23, 25-19.

The Eagles attacked quickly and took the first set 25-17. The Maroons took advantage of Juniata's offensive troubles, 12 attack errors, and came back to defeat Juniata in set two.

UChicago and Juniata played an even third set until the Eagles pulled ahead with two kills and an ace to win 25-23.

Mar-Jana Phillips (Carson, Calif./Rollings Hills Preparatory) led the offensive efforts with 38 total attacks, including 12 kills. Glenn Brumm (Oro Valley, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro) (eight kills), Nakita Gearhart (Waynesboro, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) (12 kills) and Megan Moroney (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) (13 kills) were large contributors to the Eagles' win.

Senior Kelly Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) marked 49 of the Eagles' 55 assists against the Maroons one day after reaching the 4,000-assist milestone.

Juniata moved to 15-5 on the year with the three-game sweep at the Chicago Invite. Gearhart and Moroney were both named to the All-Tournament team. Reynolds was named the Most Outstanding Player.

Up next, the Eagles will play at home against Johns Hopkins on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. On the 15th, Juniata hosts the Landmark Tri-Match where they will face Goucher and Catholic.
