Eagles Sweep Bison in Three Sets

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata women's volleyball hosted Bethany on Friday night at Memorial Gymnasium. The Eagles needed just over an hour to defeat the Bison 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-12). The win improves Juniata's record to 9-5 while Bethany evens its record at 11-11.

 

Bethany scored the first three points in the first set but Juniata countered with an 8-2 run to go ahead 8-5. The Eagles clung to a 15-14 lead but ripped off a 10-1 run to close out the set and lead the match 1-0.

 

Down 2-1 in the second set, Juniata went on a 7-1 run to go up 8-3. The Bison would rally and twice cut the Eagle lead to one point with the second time coming at 12-11. An 8-2 JC run staked the Eagles out to a 20-13 lead. Bethany would keep it close but the Eagles held off to win the second frame and go up 2-0 in the match.

 

Juniata got out in front in the third frame as it led 14-4. JC dominated throughout the set as the Bison never threatened.

 

The Eagles collectively hit .337 on the evening. Megan Moroney (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) sported a .643 hitting percentage while also picking up nine kills and four block assists. Mar-Jana Phillips (Carson, Calif./Rolling Hills Prep) tallied 10 kills and three block assists. Glen Brumm (Oro Valley, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro) added nine kills. Kelly Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) had 25 assists while Katie Thomas (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) chipped in 11 assists. On the defensive end. Katie Byrne (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) led in digs with 12. Korin Koehler (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) piled up nine digs. Reynolds contributed eight digs while Brumm accumulated six digs.

 

Juniata travels to Selinsgrove tomorrow for the second round of Landmark Conference action. The Eagles face Moravian at 1:30 p.m. and then take on Elizabethtown at 4:00 p.m.
