ATLANTA, GA – The No.1 Juniata women's volleyball team (28-1, 7-0 Landmark) opened up the Emory Invitational with a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-21, 25-20) over Berry College Friday afternoon.
Outside hitters Brittanie Tannenbaum (Highlands Ranch, CO / Highlands Ranch) and Kristin Collins (Freedom, PA / Ambridge) led the offensive effort for the Eagles. Tannenbaum recorded seven kills for a .333 hitting percentage, while Collins finished the match with seven kills and a .429 hitting percentage.
Mar-Jana Phillips (Carson, CA / Rolling Hills Preparatory) recorded a team-high 10 kills.
Nakita Gearhart (Waynesboro, PA / Greencastle-Antrim) led the defensive effort up front with five block assists. Gearhart also picked up seven kills. Katie Byrne (Annapolis, MD / Broadneck) complemented Gearhart's effort with 14 digs.
Megan Moroney (Mentor, OH / Mentor) finished the match with six kills, one service ace, one block assist and a .400 hitting percentage.
The Eagles totaled six service aces against the Vikings. Three of those aces came from Chelsea Scafuro (Geneva, OH / Geneva).
Kelly Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, PA / Upper Saint Clair) recorded 33 assists, one service ace and one block assist.
The top-ranked Eagles take on No.2 Emory at 6pm tonight. Juniata hasn't defeated Emory since their 3-1 victory in 2009 at the Washington and Lee Invitational. JC holds a 9-8 all-time record against Emory.
