Eagles Sweep Leopard Invitational, Improve to 21-1

LA VERNE, CA – The Juniata women's volleyball team (21-1, 5-0 Landmark) completed a sweep of the Leopard Invitational Saturday evening with victories over UC Santa Cruz and No. 20 La Verne. 

First up for Juniata on Saturday were the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz. The Eagles defeated the slugs 25-13, 26-24, 25-18 and averaged a .318 hitting percentage as a team. 

Megan Moroney (Mentor, OH / Mentor) led the offense with 11 kills and zero errors on 19 attacks for a .579 hitting percentage. Brittanie Tannenbaum (Highlands Ranch, CO / Highlands Ranch) followed with nine kills on 15 attempts for a .533 hitting percentage. Marybeth Weihbrecht (Mechanicsburg, PA / Cumberland Valley) recorded eight kills on 17 attacks for a .412 hitting percentage. 

Kelly Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, PA / Upper Saint Clair) recorded 41 assists against UC Santa Cruz. 

The final match of the invite was between the host school, ULV, and Juniata. The Leopards would take the first set 25-20 but Juniata responded with three straight victories (25-22, 25-20, 25-14) for the win.

Moroney led the Eagles in the match against ULV with 17 kills and a .577 hitting percentage. Glen Brumm (Oro Valley, AZ / Canyon Del Oro) followed with 13 kills. Mar-Jana Phillips (Carson, CA / Rolling Hills Preparatory) recorded 11 kills. 

Reynolds recorded 50 assists on Juniata's way to a 3-1 victory against ULV.

Juniata returns home Fri. Oct. 16 to face Haverford at 7:00PM. The Eagles also host a Landmark Weekend with Scranton and Merchant Marine that weekend.
