Eagles Sweep Landmark Weekend with 3-0 Victories over Goucher and Catholic

SELINGSGROVE, PA – The No.1 Juniata women's volleyball team (18-1, 5-0 Landmark) shut down conference opponents, Goucher and Catholic, 3-0 Saturday afternoon on the home court of the Susquehanna Crusaders.

First up for the Eagles were the Goucher Gophers. Juniata took the win 25-13, 25-14, 25-19.

Chelsea Scafuro (Geneva, OH / Geneva) led the Eagles' offense with 10 kills and a .625 hitting percentage. Bryce Arnold (Shippensburg, PA / Shippensburg Area) recorded 11 kills on 16 attacks for a .562 hitting percentage. Freshman Marybeth Weihbrecht (Mechanicsburg, PA / Cumberland Valley) put up six kills on 11 attacks to record a .455 hitting percentage.

Juniata averaged a .330 hitting percentage in the first match. 

Kelly Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, PA / Upper Saint Clair) and Katie Thomas (Batesville, IN / Batesville) split time on the court. Reynolds led with 20 assists and Thomas followed with 15.

Catholic put up a fight against Juniata but the Eagles took the win 25-23, 29-27, 25-16. Juniata averaged just a .284 hitting percentage against the Cardinals.

Arnold was a leader for the offense again in the second match. She recorded 12 kills on 27 attacks for a .333 hitting percentage. Megan Moroney (Mentor, OH / Mentor) recorded eight kills on 20 attacks for a .300 hitting percentage. Brittanie Tannenbaum (Highlands Ranch, CO / Highlands Ranch) was close behind with 12 kills on 27 attacks for a .296 hitting percentage.

Mar-Jana Phillips (Carson, CA/ Rolling Hills Preparatory) led in total kills against the Cardinals. Phillips recorded 13 kills on 33 attacks.

Reynolds recorded 46 assists in the match.

Juniata will get a few days to rest before flying out to California for the Leopard Invitational. They will face Whittier, UC Santa Cruz and La Verne at the invite.
