Women's Volleyball Improves to 15-0 with Landmark Sweep

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The No.1 Juniata women's volleyball team (15-0, 3-0 Landmark) continued their strongest start since 2006 with a sweep of the Landmark Weekend at Elizabethtown Saturday. The Eagles defeated both Moravian and Elizabethtown 3-0. 

First up on Saturday was Moravian. Juniata took the win 25-11, 26-18, 25-12, averaging a .381 hitting percentage.

Nakita Gearhart (Waynesboro, PA / Greencastle-Antrim) led with seven kills on nine attempts for a .778 hitting percentage. Marybeth Weihbrecht (Mechanicsburg, PA / Cumberland Valley) played her first full match of the season and recorded seven kills on 13 attempts for a .538 hitting percentage. Glen Brumm (Oro Valley, AZ / Canyon Del Oro) recorded eight kills on 16 attacks for a .312 hitting percentage. 

"There were contributions from the entire group today," head coach Heather Pavlik said. "I feel that we're getting better because of the great depth we have." 

The Eagles faced Elizabethtown Saturday evening. They defeated the Blue Jays 25-9, 25-21, 26-24. Juniata finished with a .326 hitting percentage and 42 kills. 

Brittanie Tannenbaum  (Highlands Ranch, CO / Highlands Ranch) led the Blue and Gold in the second match with 14 kills on 27 attacks for a .519 hitting percentage. Brumm was close behind and finished with 11 kills on 20 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage. Gearhart recorded six kills on 14 attacks for a .429 hitting percentage. On the season, Gearhart averages 2.55 kills per set for a .388 hitting percentage. 

Up next for Juniata is Division II's Clarion University. JC faces off against the Clarion Eagles (7-7) in Clarion, Pa. Tues. Sept. 29 at 7:00pm.
