Four Eagles Named to ECAC South All-Star Team; Kepler Offensive Player of the Year

DANBURY, CT- The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2014 Division III South Women’s Volleyball All-Star Team on Wednesday.  Senior Amelia Kepler (Kane, PA/Kane Area) was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year along with being named to the First Team. Sophomore Kelly Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, PA/Upper Saint Clair) was also named to the first team. Sophomore Nakita Gearhart (Waynesboro, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) and senior Brittani Young (Columbia, PA/Hempfield Area) were tabbed for the second team.

 

A two-time Landmark Conference Player of the Year and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-American, Kepler led the Eagles to a Landmark Championship and a NCAA Regional berth. The senior finished with 256 kills, averaging 2.37 kills per set and 53 total blocks against some of the top teams in the country. In conference play, Kepler turned in a .295 hitting percentage for 2.76 kills per set. This is Kepler’s second appearance on the first team as she also was named in 2012 as a sophomore.

 

Reynolds was last year’s ECAC Rookie of the Year. She is a two-time Landmark Conference first team selection and also an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. She has led the Eagles and the Landmark in assists the past two seasons and has totaled 2,151 assists to rank in Juniata’s all-time top 10.

 

Gearhart was a first-team selection in 2013. She finished the season with 2.42 kills per set and a .274 hitting percentage and finished tied for second on the Eagles in total blocks with 55. She earned Most Valuable Player honors at the Landmark Tournament where she tallied 25 kills, six digs, and had a hitting percentage of .488. Gearhart was the third member of the Eagles to be named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American.

 

Young averaged nearly five digs per set against a strong schedule with Juniata. Young totaled 588 digs to finish with 4.82 digs per set and rank second in the Landmark.

Head coach Heather Pavlik was also named the Co-Coach of the Year along with Lebanon Valley’s Wayne Perry. Pavlik guided the Eagles to a perfect mark in the Landmark for the eighth-straight season and their eighth Landmark title. The Eagles were a top-25 team all season and consistently in the top-10. In Juniata’s 34th NCAA tournament appearance, Pavlik’s squad reached the Regional championship round before falling to Hope College, 3-2.
