Three Eagles Earn Honorable Mentions From AVCA

LEXINGTON, KY- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its All-American Teams on Wednesday. Three members of the Juniata women’s volleyball team earned Honorable Mentions. They are Amelia Kepler (Kane, PA/Kane Area), Nakita Gearhart (Waynesboro, PA/Greencastle-Antrim), and Kelly Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, PA/Upper Saint Clair).

 

Kepler was a First-Team selection a year ago. This year, she was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season. Kepler finished second on the Eagles in total kills with 256.  She also tied for second in total blocks with 53.

 

Gearhart was third on Juniata on kills with 238 and averaged 2.53 per set to rank second. She tied with Kepler in total blocks. On November 3, Gearhart was named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the week after her 22 kill, eight dig, and six total block performance against Otterbein and Mount Union. She was named the MVP of the Landmark Conference Tournament on November 8 and also earned AVCA Player of the Week honors. She had her second-best hitting percentage of the season at .643 in JC’s 3-0 win over Franciscan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

 

Reynolds had a career high in assists with 1,173 and averaged 9.86 per set to lead the Landmark. She had six or more matches with 40 or more assists and tallied a season and career-best 57 against Mount Union. Reynolds also was second on the team in digs with 293 had a 2.46 dig per set average.
