Women’s Volleyball Ousts Moravian in Landmark Semifinals

HUNTINGDON, PA- The Juniata women's volleyball team hosted Moravian in the Landmark Conference Tournament semifinals on Tuesday night at Memorial Gymnasium. The Eagles had a season high hitting percentage of .446 as they handled the Greyhounds 3-0 (25-7, 25-22, 25-17).

 

The Eagles advance to the championship game on Saturday night. They will face Susquehanna who defeated Scranton 3-0 in the other semifinal match of the evening.

 

Nakita Gearhart (Waynesboro, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) led the Eagles in kills with 12. Lydia Mueller (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) and Brittanie Tannenbaum (Highlands Ranch, CO/Highlands Ranch) both added eight kills each. Mar-Jana Phillips (Carson, CA/Rolling Hills Prep) added seven kills.

 

Kelly Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, PA/Upper Saint Clair) totaled 37 assists, five digs, and four kills. Bryce Arnold (Shippensburg, PA/Shippensburg Area) led the team in digs with 10. Brittani Young (Columbia, PA/Hempfield Area) chipped in eight digs.

 

JC had no problem with the Greyhounds in the first set. The Eagles went on an 11-0 run before Moravian registered its first point of the game. Juniata had 15 kills to just three for the Greyhounds and hit a whopping .636 in the set.

 

The second set was a different story as it was close throughout. Moravian led three times with the last occurrence happening at 17-16. The Eagles held on to a 23-22 advantage and secured the last two points on a kill from Tannenbaum and an attack error on Moravian's Kelianne Comitalo to win the set.

 

Juniata took the lead in the early stages of the third frame. The Eagles lead was never less than two points and a 5-1 run to close out the set gave them the match and the victory.
