Volleyball Claims Top Spot in Landmark Tournament With Sweep

KINGS POINT, NY- The women's volleyball team competed in the final weekend of Landmark play. The Eagles dropped only one set on the day as it defeated host Merchant Marine 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-10) and Scranton 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 18-25, 25-19).

 

Juniata finishes 7-0 in the Landmark Conference. The Eagles will be the #1 seed in the upcoming tournament next month.

 

Against the Mariners, Lydia Mueller (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) led in digs with 10 and also added five kills. Karley Christian (Laguna Niguel, CA/Aliso Niguel) led in kills with 10. Nakita Gearhart (Waynesboro, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) tallied eight kills and Brittanie Tannenbaum (Highlands Ranch, CO/Highlands Ranch) chipped in seven with Tannenbaum adding five service aces. Kelly Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, PA/Upper Saint Clair) had 47 assists and a season-high 22 digs.

 

In the Royals match, four players reached double-digit figures in digs. The 88 digs by the Eagles are the second-most this season. Young led the way with 19 digs. Mueller added 13 digs. Chelsea Scafuro (Geneva, OH/Geneva) tallied 13 digs. Reynolds totaled 22 digs to go along with 47 assists. Amelia Kepler (Kane, PA/Kane Area) paced the team with 17 kills. Christian added 10 kills. Gearhart blocked three shots.

 

Juniata will host Clarion University on Tuesday night at Memorial Gymnasium. The match will start at 7 p.m.
