CORTLAND, NY- The Juniata women's volleyball team took both of its matches on Saturday to claim the championship of the 30th annual Cortland Red Dragon Women's Volleyball Classic. The Eagles record now stands at a perfect 4-0.
The Eagles had little trouble with the University of Rochester
in the first match of the day as Juniata won 3-0 (25-6, 25-15,
25-12). The team totaled 56 digs with Brittani
Young (Columbia, PA/Hempfield Area) picking up 17.
Chelsea Scafaro (Geneva, OH/Geneva) and Kelly
Reynolds (Upper Saint Clair, PA/Upper Saint Clair)
both had 10 each with Reynolds adding 28 assists. Megan
Moroney (Mentor, OH/Mentor) had 10 kills.
Juniata took down Medaille 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-19) in the
second match of the day. Reynolds tallied 23 assists and seven
digs. Chelsea Scufaro and Young also had seven digs. Katie
Dickins (Claremont, CA/Vivian Webb)had 11 assists
and four assists. Bryce
Arnold (Shippensburg, PA/Shippensburg
Area) had eight kills.
"Today was really productive in that we saw a lot of different
people," said head coach Heather Pavlik. "It was a good team effort
all the way around."
At the conclusion of the classic, Young was named to the
All-Tournament team. In four matches, she accumulated 52
digs.
Juniata will next compete in the Transylvania University Invitational next weekend. The Eagles play Bethany on Friday followed by Berry and Milliken on Saturday.
