#14 Women’s Volleyball Goes 2-0 at Red Dragon Classic

CORTLAND, NY- The #14 ranked Juniata women’s volleyball team began its 2014 season on Friday at the Red Dragon Classic hosted by SUNY Cortland. The Eagles defeated Nazareth College 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-13) in the first match and handled SUNY Fredonia 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-16).

Against the Golden Flyers, Kelly Reynolds (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) totaled 25 assists and 10 digs for the Eagles. Brittani Young (Columbia, PA/Hempfield Area) led the team with 12 digs. Ameila Kepler (Kane, PA/Kane Area) tallied nine kills, six digs, and three blocks.

"Once we got settled down, we played good ball," said head coach Heather Pavlik after the game. We got our passing under control and our serving was dominant."

In the Blue Devil contest, Young tallied 16 digs. Reynolds contributed 10 digs and Gabrielle Ooyama (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had nine digs. Brittanie Tannebaum (Highlands Ranch, CO/Highlands Ranch) and Mar-Jana Phillips (Carson, CA/Rolling Hills Prep) had four aces each with Phillips also coming up with eight kills.
