Pavlik Adds Phillips to 2013 Roster

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Head women's volleyball coach Heather Pavlik has added a top California recruit to the 2013 recruiting class.  Mar-Jana Phillips (Carson, Calif./Rolling Hills Prep) committed to joining the Eagles next season and became the second Golden State prospect on Juniata's roster.

"Mar-Jana is a very gifted athlete whose explosiveness, length and quickness will be a great addition to this team," said Pavlik. "She is barely scratching the surface of her abilities with regards to volleyball at this point so we are very excited to watch her development in our training gym."

Phillips was a four-time All-Coastal League and two-time All-California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) selection.  She was named 2012 Coastal League Player of the Year after leading her team to a CIF Championship title.  And also earned CIF Southern Section Division IV Player of the Year honors.

A three-sport student-athlete, Phillips also lettered in basketball and softball.  She helped lead her basketball team to the back-to-back CIF Championships and was named All-CIF Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011.  She was the Coastal League MVP and received 2011 Coast Leage and 2009-10 All-Harbor League first-team honors.  Phillips was also first-team in softball in 2010 and 2011 and made run to 2010 CIF final with her squad.

Pavlik finished by saying that "she also brings with her a positive attitude and a great personality which will fit in right away with our team.  We are really looking forward to her four years here on campus."
