ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After battling through a tough match against host No. 1 Washington (Mo.) last night, No. 24 Juniata women's volleyball closed its final day at the Washington Halloween Invitational with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-12) win over Alverno and a 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 29-27) win against St. Ambrose. They finished the weekend 2-1.
Senior Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) and sophomore Amelia Kepler (Kane, Pa./Kane) were named to the all-tournament team. Fuller recorded her second straight double-double, 12th of the season in the win over St. Ambrose. She finished with 14 kills and 21 digs in four sets of play. Kepler tied for the match-high of 16 kills against St. Ambrose and finished the day with 18 kills and zero errors.
"We did a good job," said Juniata Head Coach Heather Pavlik of the wins. "It was a team effort. [St. Ambrose is] physical. We had to grind through that one. We had a great comeback in game four, showed a lot of grit, but we definitely grinded it out.
Junior Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) earned her third double-double of the season against Alverno. She finished with 10 digs and a match-high 12 kills. Consistent over the weekend was junior setter Sarah McCarthy (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook). She totaled 96 assists in three matches with 22 digs.
The Eagles are now 24-11 on the season heading into Landmark Conference Championships. Juniata is the No. 1 seed and will host this year's tournament. They are 6-0 against conference opponents this season and have won five straight Landmark titles.
