Eagles Sweep Goucher 3-0 in Final Day of Competition

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 21 Juniata College finished the final Landmark Conference Weekend undefeated after sweeping Goucher College 3-0 on Sunday.  Juniata (19-8, 6-0 Landmark) hit .315 as a team, earning 42 kills to the Gophers 16.

 

The Eagles dominated most categories in the match, leading in kills, assists (41), aces (5) and digs (49).

 

Junior Amy Miller (Chesapeak, Va./Western Branch) finished with her first double-double of the season after notching a season-best 10 kills and 12 digs.

 

Fellow junior Sarah McCarthy (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) finished with a match-high 20 assists.  This is the 15th time this year she has earned 20 or more assists in a match but only fifth time in a straight set win.

 

Sitting atop the digs category was senior Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion).  She picked up a match-high 13 digs to go along with her .364 kill percentage.


Goucher dropped to 7-21 with the loss, 1-5 in league play.

 

Juniata finally returns home for the first time since Sept. 27. The Eagles host the Wid Guisler Invite this weekend and will face Emory on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.  They then round out the tournament on Oct. 20 against Heidelberg at 11 a.m. and Eastern at 5 p.m.
