Women’s volleyball split during final day at Cal Lutheran Invite

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Juniata women's volleyball defeated Claremont M-S 3-2 before later falling 3-2 to Cal Lutheran in day two of competition at the Cal Lutheran Invitational in Thousand Oaks, California. 

Set scores for the match versus Claremont were 25-16, 22-25, 26-24, 19-25, and 15-11. Set scores in the loss to the Kingsmen were 25-22, 25-16, 25-18, 25-11, 15-11. 

Against the Stags, Juniata (16-8) swung at a .271 attack rate and held their opponents to a .176 hitting percentage.

In the win, the Eagles were led in offense by Kelsey Fuller's (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) 15 kills, who also completed the double-double with 15 digs. Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) also recorded a double-double with 11 terminations and 13 digs.

Courtney Lydick (McKean, Pa./General McLane) entered double-digits with 13 kills in the match and registered a solo block and three block assists.

Amelia Kepler (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) was the only other Juniata player to earned a solo block against the Stags while also adding eight terminations.

Brittani Young (Columbia, Pa./Helpfield Area) nearly hit 30 digs as she sprawled for 29 in the five-game match, while Adena Deloizer (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area) earned 14 digs and Sarah McCarthy (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) racked-up 10.

In the loss to Cal Lutheran, Juniata mustered a .144 attack percentage led again by Fuller who tallied 11 kills. Kepler contributed the team's second highest with 10 terminations.

Fuller served-up a team high three service aces and sprawled for 14 digs, while Young dug-out 27 attacks.

The Eagles travel to Moravian College for the second Landmark Conference Round Robin Weekend where they will face Scranton, Catholic and Goucher.
