Women’s volleyball rallies to win in five versus Whittier

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Juniata women's volleyball clinched a 3-2 come from behind win against Whittier College at the Cal-Lutheran Invitational in Thousand Oaks, California on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles fell in set one 25-18 but was able to take set two 25-22. Set three went to the Poets 25-22, but Juniata (15-7) pulled-out 25-20 and 15-4 final sets to take the win.

Juniata outhit Whittier (7-9) with a .213 attack percentage led by the 12-kill performances from Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) and Courtney Lydick (McKean, Pa./General McLane). Fuller swung at .308 attack rate, while Lydick committed just two errors in 22 total attacks for a .455 hitting percentage. Christine Sumner (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) also hit double digits in kills with 10 terminations and had Juniata's only solo block of the night.

Adena Delozier (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area) and Sarah McCarthy (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) shared setting duties. Delozier recorded 22 assists and McCarthy had 21 while also posting two service aces, as did Brittani Young (Columbia, Pa./Helpfield Area).

Young led the squad in digs with 25, and Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) contributed 14.

Amelia Kepler (Kane, Pa./Kane Area), Sumner and Lydick each recorded two block assists against the Poets.

Juniata continues play at the Cal-Lutheran Invitational tomorrow and will face Claremont-M-S and Cal Lutheran.
