INDIANA, Pa. – Juniata women's volleyball won its first two games against Indiana University of Pennsylvania but was unable to seal the deal in the last three sets and lost 3-2 against the Division II opponent at Kovalchick Complex.
Set scores for the match were 25-19, 28-26, 25-10, 25-23, and 15-12.
Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) exploded with kill production for Juniata (14-7) against the Crimson Hawks, as she racked-up a season-high 16 kills.
Both Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) and Catherine Scholl (Austin Texas, St. Michael's Catholic Academy) contributed 11 apiece. Scholl pulled-through in some key situations for the Eagles against the Hawks, as she earned both set-point kills for Juniata in sets one and two and also recorded the final termination in game one to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Despite posting 57 kills as a team, one more than IUP (14-6) and the second-highest amount Juniata has recorded in 2012, the Eagles only posted a .117 attack percentage versus Indiana (Pa.), the lowest the team has managed all season.
Fuller led the squad in digs with 30 to complete the double-double, and libero Brittani Young (Columbia, Pa./Helpfield Area) was second with 28. Wiegand sprawled for 21 across the five games to also grab a double-double and Sarah McCarthy (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) recorded 15.
Juniata's only solo block of the night came from Wiegand in game four as she stopped an Ellen Fordan attack to continue Young's six-point service.
The Eagles fly to California this weekend for the Cal Lutheran Invitational and will play Whittier, Claremont-M-S, and Cal Lutheran during the tournament.
