Juniata unable to take down Golden Eagles in five-game match

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – No. 21 Juniata women's volleyball couldn't keep up with Clarion University on Thursday night in Kennedy S+RC and gave up a 3-2 loss, marking the squad's fifth loss on its home court this season.

Set scores for the match were 25-19, 25-18, 25-21, 25-14, and 15-6, with the Eagles clinching victories in sets one and three.

Juniata (11-6) opened the match hitting a .238 rate and held the Golden Eagles to a meager .050 attack percentage, but the roles switched during set two as Juniata only hit at a .056 attack rate while Clarion (14-3) was swinging at a .258 percentage throughout the second game.

Juniata managed to bounce back to take set three, thanks to Cat Scholl's (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's Catholic Academy) four kills in set three alone added to Christine Sumner's (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) five terminations.

However game three proved to be the last of Juniata's luck in the match, as the Eagles combined for just a .072 hitting percentage across the final two sets while the Golden Eagles hit at just over .500 as a team.

Scholl led the Eagles in kills with 14, while Sumner and Courtney Lydick (McKean, Pa./General McLane) each recorded 10 terminations in the match.

Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) inched closer to reaching 1,000 digs in her career as she added nine to her tally against Clarion to put her at 986 over her four-year campaign.

Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) contributed a team-high 16 digs, a season-high for the outside hitter, and Brittani Young (Columbia, Pa./Helpfield Area) sprawled for 14.

Juniata begins Landmark Conference play at Goucher College in Towson, Md. this weekend at the Landmark Conference Round-Robin Weekend.
