Juniata finishes Juniata Invitational with two wins

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – No. 15 Juniata women's volleyball battled into four sets against both Franklin & Marshall College and Carnegie Mellon University before defeating each 3-1 during the second day of competition at the Juniata Invitational in Huntingdon, Pa. 

Set scores for the match against the Diplomats were 25-27, 25-18, 25-22, and 25-17. Set scores for the match versus the Tartans were 21-25, 25-18, 25-13, and 27-25. 

Juniata (11-5) hit at a .198 attack rate over the course of the two matches, with Christine Sumner (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) leading the offensive production and posting her two highest kill amounts of the 2012 season with 29 kills (12 vs. CMU, 17 vs. F&M). Sumner combined for a team high .384 attack percentage during the two Saturday matches.

Sumner, who earned All-Tournament honors for her performances, also played well defensively in the CMU match as she recorded a team-high two solo blocks and two block assists. But no block was greater than Amelia Kepler's (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) solo block to end the match against CMU with Juniata taking set four 27-25.

Courtney Lydick (McKean, Pa./General McLane), also an All-Tournament team selction, recorded 10 kills against the Diplomats and Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) hit double-digits against Carnegie Mellon with 11 terminations. 

Fuller, who sits 23 digs away from 1,000 in her career, sprawled for 29 digs during the two matches, while Brittani Young (Columbia, Pa./Helpfield Area) turned-up a match-high 25 digs against Carnegie Mellon and 14 digs against F&M. Adena Delozier (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area) hit the floor to dig-out 15 attacks in the CMU match, as did Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central).

Deloizer and Sarah McCarthy  (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) shared setting duties during both matches. Deloizer had 37 assists on the day and McCarthy put-up 43.

Juniata hosts NCAA Division II Clarion University on Thursday, September 27, in Kennedy S+RC for a 7:00 p.m. match.
