Juniata tames Lady Lions at Dig Pink match

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – No. 15 Juniata College women's volleyball allowed just Penn State Altoona to score 21 points in a three-game match as the Eagles dominated at Kennedy S+RC on Tuesday night winning 3-0.

Set scores for the match were 25-10, 25-6, and 25-5.

Juniata (8-4), who got every player on the roster into the match, hit at a .530 attack rate as a team compared to the Lady Lions' -.188 hitting percentage. Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) led Juniata in kills with eight, Amy Miller (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) had seven, and Kristin Collins (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge) added five.

Not only was Juniata's kill production spot-on against Penn State Altoona (3-9), but the Eagles' serving was also just as hot, as Juniata served up seven aces. Wiegand had a team-high three aces that all came in set three during Wiegand's thirteen-point serving rally and two of her three aces were back-to-back.

The Eagles' defense sprawled for 30 digs with Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) and Wiegand each grabbing seven. In blocking, Fuller was the only Eagle to chart a solo stop and the squad combined for 10 block assists.

Tonight's match marked the 10th meeting between the squads in program history, with Juniata winning every match in the series. Penn State Altoona has only won three sets against Juniata across all ten matches.

This evening's match was also the team's fifth annual Dig Pink match. All proceeds from the event went to benefit the Side-Out Foundation – a non-profit that raises money for breast cancer research through the sport of volleyball.

Juniata is set to host the Juniata Invitational this weekend and will play FDU-Florham, Salisbury, Franklin & Marshall and Carnegie Mellon in Kennedy S+RC.
