Cat Scholl provides bright spot for Juniata women’s volleyball

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – No. 9 Juniata College women's volleyball's Catherine Scholl (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's Catholic Academy) was named to the Juniata ASICS Invitational All-Tournament team for her performances over the weekend against three nationally ranked teams.

Scholl's performances certainly was a positive for the women's volleyball team, who suffered two losses on Saturday at Kennedy S+RC; a 4-1 loss to No. 16 Puget Sound and a 3-0 sweep by No. 1 Christopher Newport. 

Set scores for Puget Sound were 25-19, 25-23, 25-23, and 26-24. Set scores for Christopher Newport were 25-23, 25-18, and 25-17.

Scholl combined for a team high 26 kills against the Loggers and Captains and finished the day hitting at a .355 rate, including a 15 kill and .444 attack percentage effort against Puget Sound. 

Senior Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) claimed 12 kills against the Captains and another 13 versus the Loggers, while Courtney Lydick (McKean, Pa./General McLane) also hit double digits against Puget Sound with 10 kills.

Juniata (5-3) only hit at a .135 hitting percentage during the second day of competition compared to a .199 Puget Sound rate and a .306 attack percentage from the Captains.

Brittani Young (Columbia, Pa./Helpfield Area) led in digs in both matches with 19 against the Loggers and 14 versus Chris. Newport. Against Puget Sound, Adena Delozier  (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area) and Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) each sprawled for 13 digs and Fuller dug-out 15. 

Juniata travels to Gambier, Ohio for the Kenyon Invitational where they will play against Mount Union College, Kenyon and Transylvania with competition beginning on Friday, September 14, at 4:30 p.m.
