Women’s volleyball remains undefeated through Haverford Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Juniata College women's volleyball defeated Frostburg State, 3-0, and Haverford, 3-1, at the Haverford Invitational on Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated in the 2012 season (4-0) and took home two All-Tournament recognitions and the tournament's Most Valuable Player award.

Juniata won 25-11, 25-17, and 25-17 against Frostburg and set scores against Haverford were 25-13, 25-17, 18-25, and 25-15.

Sophomore Brittani Young (Columbia, Pa./Helpfield Area) earned the MVP title for her stellar libero performances across the four matches. Young combined for 86 digs, with her highest dig total coming against the four-game match against Haverford when she dug out 32 attacks. Courtney Lydick (McKean, Pa./General McLane) and Amelia Kepler (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) earned All-Tournament honors for their performances as well.

In the Frostburg match, Lydick and sophomore Catherine Scholl (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's Catholic Academy) led the kill production with eight each, and Kristin Collins (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge) added seven while Kepler contributed six.

On defense, Young sprawled for 17 digs and junior Sarah McCarthy (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) recorded 12. Scholl, Christine Sumner (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) and Collins all registered one block against the Bobcats.

Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) paced the Juniata serve with three aces, and Kepler continued serving well with two service aces.

Kepler, Sumner and and Lydick each hit double digits in kills with Lydick leading the way with 12 terminations. Sumner's 10 kills with 17 total attacks and three errors left her with a .412 attack percentage. Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) also hit at a .412 rate with eight kills on 17 attacks and one error.

Juniata travels to Saint Vincent College on Wednesday, September 4, for a 7:00 p.m. mid-week match.
