ATLANTA – Juniata College women's volleyball knew they'd be running into a tough opponent in Friday night's match against No. 2-ranked Emory University. But this may have been a little more than just a "tough opponent".
Emory hit an imposing .340 for the match, burying 42 kills on 94 swings, and posted a 3-0 win over Juniata, in first day action at the Emory National Invitational at Emory's Woodruff Physical Education Center.
Set score for Emory (31-2) were 25-15, 25-14, and 25-10.
12th-ranked Juniata (21-7) hit -.054 for the match, logging just 14 kills. Juniata was paced by freshman Amelia Kepler (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) with four kills, while four other players had two kills each. Junior middle Ashley Schnader (Reinholds, Pa./Garden Spot) was one of those players with two kills and she had a hand on a pair of blocks.
Juniata was led defensively by senior libero Libby Morrison (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) with 21 digs, while setter Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) had seven digs. Greenberg had 12 assists while running the Juniata offense.
Emory's Alex Duhl and Breanah Bourque each tallied nine kills, with Amelia McCall charting eight terminations. Emory outblocked Juniata 6.0 to 2.0, with Bourque's four total blocks leading Emory at the net on her way to a match-high 11.0 points.
Juniata concludes its regular season on Saturday when it faces Heidelberg College and Washington & Lee University.
