HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College's Amanda Schmidt (Boswell, Pa./North Star) has been named Landmark Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week, for week ending October 23, 2011.
Schmidt, a senior middle hitter for the 12th-ranked Eagles, hit .452 for the weekend while leading Juniata to a pair of non-conference wins.
She opened the weekend by putting away eight kills on 18 attacks in Juniata's 3-0 Friday night win over Division II Indiana University of Pa., recording a .278 hitting percentage in the process.
However Schmidt closed out two-match home stand on Saturday with a sterling performance against Carnegie Mellon University. She put away a season-high 14 kills on 24 error-free swings, logging a .583 hitting percentage, pacing the Eagles to a 3-1 victory over the Tartans. Schmidt also had three total blocks in the match, finishing with a match-high 16.0 points.
Schmidt averaged 3.14 kills per set and 3.43 points per set, both well above her season averages coming into the weekend.
Juniata (21-6) closes out the regular season this weekend at the Emory National Invitational in Atlanta, Ga., with matches against Emory, Heidelberg, and Washington & Lee.
