Women’s volleyball celebrates Senior Day with 3-1 win over Carnegie Mellon

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College women's volleyball completed its 2011 regular season home slate on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Carnegie Mellon University at the Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center.

Juniata (21-6) won by set scores of 25-13, 23-25, 25-20, and 25-14.

Sophomore outside hitter Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) led the Eagles with 16 kills on 40 swings for a .300 hitting percentage, while senior middle Amanda Schmidt (Boswell, Pa./North Star) pounded out 14 terminations on 24 error-free attacks and hit .583 for the match.

Junior pin hitter Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) and freshman middle Courtney Lydick (McKean, Pa./General McLane) each logged 11 kills, with Lydick and freshman middle Amelia Kepler (Kane, Pa./Kane) charting four total blocks each.

Juniata hit .294 for the match, including a .571 hitting percentage in the fourth and final set with 17 kills and just one error on 28 swings.  Sophomore Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) set the Juniata offense, recording 46 assists, and served up two aces.

Senior libero Libby Morrison charted 29 digs, third-most this season, while Wiegand turned the double-double with 14 digs. Greenberg also had 14 digs, while freshman Brittani Young (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) had 12.

Carnegie Mellon (12-12) was led by Rachel Miller and Ali Celentano with 12 kills each, with Olivia Mora putting away seven terminations.  Madeline Rosnick had four total blocks to lead the Tartans at the net, with added one ace and six kills.

Miller led CMU defensively with 19 digs.

Juniata will travel to Atlanta, Ga., this weekend, to face Emory University, Heidelberg University, and Washington & Lee at the Emory National Invitational.
