Kalil, Orndorf Take First as Women's Track and Field Sits in Fourth on Day 1 of Landmark Championships

TOWSON, Md.-The Juniata women's track and field team sits in fourth place after day one of the Landmark Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Saturday.  

Azia Kalil (Methuen, Mass. / Methuen HS) and Kylie Orndorf (Milheim, Pa. / Penns Valley) finished first in their respective events for the Eagles. 

Orndorf won the javelin with a throw of 41.35 while Saraly Gonzalez (Stratford, N.J. / Sterling) took second with a throw of 38.16. Orndorf placed fifth in the discus (32.99m) and Marylauren Davignon (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) placed 14th with a throw of 21.54. Meadow Walshaw-Wertz (Sunbury, Pa. / Upper Dauphin) was fifth in the long jump with a jump of 5.07m. 

Kalil took first in the 10000m with a time of  38:43.71 while Rebecca Herwig (Somerset, Pa. / Somerset Area HS) finished 11th(43:30.82). Walshaw-Wertz finished first in the 100m hurdles preliminaries with a time of 16.13 to earn a spot in the finals. Faith Nichols (Verona, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) qualified for the 200m (27.12) and the 400m (1:01.45). Yanibel Collado (Freeport, N.Y. / Milton Hershey) took sixth in the 1500m with a time of 4:56.22. Grace Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg) took 14th (5:09.23), Mellanie Barnes (Chicago, Ill. / Holy Trinity) took 16th(5:13.92), Alli Goulden (Wharton, N.J. / Morris Knolls) was 19th(5:18.15) and Alexis Barge (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) was 20th(5:25.51).
