Kalil Shatters JC 10K Record as Eagles Compete at Widener Invitational

CHESTER, Pa.- The Juniata women's track and field team competed at Widener Invitational, Saturday. 

Azia Kalil (Methuen, Mass. / Methuen HS) shattered the Juniata 10000m record; breaking the previous record by 55 seconds. Kalil finished second with a time of 37:51.24. 

In the 1500m, Yanibel Collado (Freeport, N.Y. / Milton Hershey) finished eighth with a time of 4:48.75, Mellanie Barnes (Chicago, Ill. / Holy Trinity (Ill.)) finished 46th with a time of 5:14.83, Abbie Echard (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) finished 52nd with a time of 5:18.89, Alexis Barge (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) finished 69th with a time of 5:31.27, and Rebecca Herwig (Somerset, Pa. / Somerset Area HS) finished 71st with a time of 5:34.16. 

In the 100m hurdles, Meadow Walshaw-Wertz (Sunbury, Pa. / Upper Dauphin) placed 15th coming in with a time of 16.72. In the 400m run, Faith Nichols (Verona, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) finished 27th with a time of 1:01.83. In the 100m, Walshaw-Wertz placed 30th (13.44), Caitlyn Gasmen (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) placed 60th (14.75), and Sabrina Kelly (Gilberstville, Pa. / Boyertown Area HS) placed 62nd (14.96). In the 800m, Julia Freimuth (York, Pa. / Cedar Cliff HS) (2:30.45), Barnes (2:33), Jessica Aragon (Bridgeport, Conn. / Bridgeport Central HS) (2:39.49), Barge (2:42.62), Alli Goulden (Wharton, N.J. / Morris Knolls) (2:42.92), and Lydia Heishman (Keezletown, Pa. / Spotswood High) (2:51.61) placed 46th, 50th, 64th, 72nd, 73rd, and 81st, respectively. 

Gasmen finished 25th in the 400m hurdles clocking in at 1:15. In the 200m, Sabrina placed 82nd coming in with a time of 31.89. Juniata placed 10th in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:14.87. 

In the field, Kylie Orndorf (Milheim, Pa. / Penns Valley) placed 18th marking 10.22m while Marylauren Davignon (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) placed 31st marking 8.28m in the shot put. In the triple jump, Walshaw-Wertz placed 23rd marking 9.96m. In the javelin, Saraly Gonzalez (Stratford, N.J. / Sterling) placed fifth marking 34.00m. In the discus, Orndorf placed 12th marking 32.77m. 

Juniata will compete in the Paul Kaiser Invitational hosted by Shippensburg on April 27th.
