Women's Track and Field Places Seventh at Messiah Invite

GRANTHAM, Pa.- The Juniata women's track & field team placed seventh overall at the Messiah Invite, Saturday.

Azia Kalil (Methuen, Mass. / Methuen HS) took the top spot in the 3000m steeplechase finishing with a time of 11:25.65 and Meaghen Stewart (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) finished seventh with a time of 12:36.26. Rebecca Herwig (Somerset, Pa. / Somerset Area HS) finished third in the 10,000m run with a time of 43:37.40 while Alli Goulden (Wharton, N.J. / Morris Knolls) finished seventh with a time of 45:21.51. 

In the 1500m run, Yanibel Collado (Freeport, N.Y. / Milton Hershey) finished fourth crossing the line at 4:54.98, while Grace Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg) finished 11th with a time of 5:10.74, Mellanie Barnes (Chicago, Ill. / Holy Trinity (Ill.)) finished 14th coming in with a time of 5:15.95, and Alexis Barge (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) finished 35th with a time of 5:45.01. In the 5000m, Abbie Echard (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) placed ninth with a time of 20:33.70. In the 100m hurdles, Meadow Walshaw-Wertz (Sunbury, Pa. / Upper Dauphin) finished fourth (16.58). In the 400m hurdles, Caitlyn Gasmen (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) placed seventh with a time of 76.24. 

In the 100m dash, Walshaw-Wertz placed ninth coming in with a time of 13.06 while Holly Caldwell (Milford, Conn. / Jonathan Law) placed 29th (14.68), Gasmen placed 31st (14.68), and Sabrina Kelly (Gilberstville, Pa. / Boyertown Area HS) placed 32nd (14.95). In the 200m dash, Caldwell finished 34th with a time of 30.99 and Kelly finished 42nd with a time of 33.14. Julia Freimuth (York, Pa. / Cedar Cliff HS) finished 10th in the 400m dash coming in with a time of 65.15. In the 800m, Jessica Aragon (Bridgeport, Conn. / Bridgeport Central HS) finished 20th (2:41.35) while Lydia Heishman (Keezletown, Pa. / Spotswood High) finished 31st (2:59.85). 

Juniata took sixth place in the 4x400m relay finishing with a time of 4:36.30 and second in the 4x800m relay coming in with a time of 10:16.11. 

In the long jump, Walshaw-Wertz placed sixth marking 4.82m. Kylie Orndorf (Milheim, Pa. / Penns Valley) placed 10th in the shot put marking 10.59m while Marylauren Davignon (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) placed 31st marking 8.17m. In the discus, Orndorf placed 11th marking 32.36m and Davignon placed 32nd marking 19.30m. Orndorf placed second in the javelin (39.70m) while Saraly Gonzalez (Stratford, N.J. / Sterling) placed fourth (37.13m). In the hammer throw, Davignon placed 25th marking 27.17m. 

Juniata will compete again on April 17th at the Ship Mid-Week Invite, hosted by Shippensburg.
