Women's Track and Field Hosts Juniata Invitational

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's track & field team competed in the Juniata Invitational held at Oller Track this afternoon.

Azia Kalil (Methuen, Mass. / Methuen HS) was the top finisher for the Eagles as she took first in the 1500m (5:00.87) and first in the 3000m (10:53.14). 

In the 1500m, Yanibel Collado (Freeport, N.Y. / Milton Hershey), Mellanie Barnes (Chicago, Ill. / Holy Trinity (Ill.)), Rebecca Herwig (Somerset, Pa. / Somerset Area HS), Sarah Melgar (Portage, Mich. / Portage Northern), Alexis Barge (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick), and Amanda Preston (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / East Pennsboro) placed third, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and nineth, respectively. In the 3000m, Herwig placed fifth coming in with a time of 12:10.50 and Melgar finished sixth coming in with a time of 12:28.78. 

In the 800m run, Julia Freimuth (York, Pa. / Cedar Cliff HS), Collado, Grace Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg), Barnes, Jessica Aragon (Bridgeport, Conn. / Bridgeport Central HS), Barge, Lyida Heishman (Keezletown, Pa. / Spotswood High), and Elese Christ (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottsgrove High) placed third, fourth, fifth, eighth, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 14th, respectively. In the 5000m, Abbie Echard (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) finished second coming in with a time of 20:48.63 while Alli Goulden (Wharton, N.J. / Morris Knolls) finished fourth with a time of 22:18.54. 

In the 100m dash, Holly Caldwell (Milford, Conn. / Jonathan Law) placed 10th (15.00) while Sabrina Kelly (Gilberstville, Pa. / Boyertown Area HS) placed 11th (15.75). In the 200m dash, Faith Nichols (Verona, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) finished fourth with a time of 27.78 and Kelly finished 14th coming in with a time of 33.37. 

In the 100m hurdles, Meadow Walshaw-Wertz (Sunbury, Pa. / Upper Dauphin) placed second with a time of 16.60. Caitlyn Gasmen (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) placed fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:18.78). In the 3000m steeplechase Meaghen Stewart (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) took second place. 

The team of Walshaw-Wertz, Gasmen, Caldwell, and Nichols placed fourth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 55.39. The quartet of Alexander, Freimuth, Nichols, and Stewart placed second coming in with a time of 4:27.68. 

In the field, Walshaw-Wertz placed fourth in the long jump marking 4.67m. Walshaw-Wertz placed third in the triple jump marking 9.93m. In the shot put, Kylie Orndorf (Milheim, Pa. / Penns Valley) placed second (10.06m) while Marylauren Davignon (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) placed fifth (8.29m). Orndorf placed second in the discus and Davignon placed seventh. In the hammer throw, Orndorf placed fourth marking 37.94m and Davignon placed seventh marking 24.09m. Orndorf and Saraly Gonzalez (Stratford, N.J. / Sterling) took the top two spots in the javelin. 

The Eagles return to the track March 30th to participate in the Jim Taylor Invite held at Susquehanna.
