Women’s Track and Field Competes at Frostburg Invitational

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Juniata women's track and field team had a strong showing at the Frostburg Invitational on Saturday with several finishes in the top five.

Yanibel Collado (Freeport, NY/Forest Hills) placed first in the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:59.46 for a new personal best time. Freshman Azia Kalil (Methuen, Mass./Methuen HS) was just behind in third, coming in with a 5:17.86 and junior Allison Goulden (Wharton, NJ/Morrie Krolls) followed in sixth (5:38.16).

The Eagles also took first in the 800-meter run. Claudia Sacks (Allentown, Pa/Allentown Central Catholic) ran a time of 2:24.91 with Collado finishing closely behind in second place (2:25.57). Meaghen Stewart (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) also placed fourth in the race (2:31.74).

Sophomore Caitlyn Gasmen (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) ran a 1:16.60 time in the 400-meter hurdles. In the 200-meter run, Faith Nichols (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) placed third with a time of 28.50 with Julia Freimuth (York, Pa./Cedar Cliff) behind with a time of 29.30.

Rebecca Herwig (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area HS) and Erica Meehan (Amerherst, NH/Souhegan HS) placed in the top five in the 5000-meter race, coming in third and fourth, respectively.

In the field, Kylie Orndorf (Milheim, Pa./Penns Valley) took second in the hammer, reaching a distance of 33.24 meters. Ashley Waterman (Avondale, Pa./Kennett) placed fourth in the event (26.62) and Kaitlyn Young (Mount Ephraim, NJ/Audubon) placed sixth (20.09). Young also placed second in discus with a throw of 29.86 meters with Orndorf in third (29.67).

Suzy Badorf-England (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg High School) reached a 29.42 meter throw in javelin, placing her second in the event. Sophomore Kelly Leamer (Altoona, Pa./Bellwood) placed fourth with 27.54 meters.

The Eagles will return to action next week at the Messiah Invitational.
