Women's Track and Field Records Several Top 10 Results at Landmark Outdoor Championships

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata women's track and field team kicked off the first day of the Landmark Outdoor Track and Field Championship at home on Saturday. The Eagles had several finishes in the top 10.

 

In the field events, Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) was the top finisher for the Eagles. Sellers placed 2nd in the long jump event, reaching a distance of 4.96m. Junior Katy Leamer (Altoona, Pa. / Bellwood) followed behind in 8th place with a jump measuring 4.52m.

 

Freshman Kylie Orndorf (Milheim, Pa. / Penns Valley) placed 3rd in discus with a throw of 33.75m. Fellow freshman Kaitlyn Young (Mount Ephraim, NJ / Audubon) placed 10th in the event with senior Sarah Rhodes (Bloomfield, NY / Bloomfield) in 11th. Rhodes also placed 12th in the hammer event, her throw measuring 26.17m.

 

Sophomore Allyson Kopera (Hastings, Pa. / Northern Cambria) inched her way into the 4th place spot in the Juniata record books with a time of 4:54.20 in the 1500m, putting her in 8th. Freshman Yanibel Collado (Freeport, NY / Forest Hills) had a time of 5:05.40 for 11th place.

 

In the 100m hurdles, senior Erin Gaines (Hagerstown, MD / Williamsport) will proceed to the finals on day two of the championship. Gaines ran a time of 16.98 in the preliminaries. Sellers qualified for the finals of the 200m with a preliminary time of 26.66.

 

Day two of the championship will conclude tomorrow. The javelin throw starts at 9:00 a.m. with the 4x400 relay as the final women's event beginning at 3:20 p.m.
