Women's Track and Field Records 13 Top-5 Performances at Frostburg

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Juniata women's track and field team earned 13 top-5 finishes at the Frostburg Invitational Saturday.

Sophomore Allyson Kopera (Hastings, Pa. / Northern Cambria) finished 2nd in the 1500m race with a time of 5:14.66. Kopera was followed by Allyson Goulden (Wharton, N.J. / Morris Krolls) in 10th place, finishing with a time of 5:49.05, and Vanessa Hurst (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata) in 12th place, with a time of 6:04.76. Kopera also placed 4th in the 800m with a time of 2:32.64. Senior Jecenia Duran (Temple, Pa. / Olley Valley) and junior Chelsea Chizmar (Johnstown, Pa. / Forest Hills) finished 6th and 7th in the race, respectively.

In the 100m hurdles, senior Erin Gaines (Hagerstown, Md. / Williamsport) placed 4th, finishing with a time of 17.99. Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) finished 3rd in the 200m with a time of 27.39, and Gaines followed in 8th with a time of 29.36.

Duran, Kopera, Gaines, and Meaghen Stewart (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) combined efforts to finish 3rd in the 4x400, finishing in 4:23.18.

In the field events, Sellers came in 3rd in the long jump, reaching 4.91m, followed by Katy Leamer (Altoona, Pa. / Bellwood-Antis) in 6th place. Sellers took 4th in the triple jump, reaching a jump of 9.99m. Senior Sarah Rhodes (Bloomfield, NY / Bloomfield) placed 2nd in the hammer event, throwing a distance of 32.56m.

 Kylie Orndorf (Milheim, Pa. / Penns Valley) took the top spot in the javelin, finishing with a distance of 34.79m. Kelly Leamer (Altoona, Pa. / Bellwood-Antis) placed 3rd in the event with Rhodes placing 5th.

Orndorf also placed 3rd in the discus event with freshman Kaitlyn Young (Mount Ephraim, NJ / Audobon) finishing 5th and Rhodes placing 7th. In shot put, Orndorf also placed 3rd, throwing a distance of 9.54m, rounding out her day.

The Eagles return to action on April 8 at the Messiah Invitational.
