Fisher Leads Outdoor Track and Field with Fourth Place Finish at Paul Kaiser

SHIPPENSBURG, PA – The Juniata women's outdoor track and field team returned to Shippensburg University to compete in the Paul Kaiser Track and Field Classic Saturday. The meet featured athletes from Division II and Division III schools.

Juniata's best finish of the day came from Katelyn Fisher (Rochester, NY / Greece Athena) in the high jump. Fisher recorded a 1.53 meter leap to enter an 11-way tie for fourth place. 

In the hammer throw, Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, PA / Selinsgrove Area) took 13th with a toss of 36.95 meters. Thalia Chance-Chin (Tampa Bay, FL / Tampa Prep) finished 27th in the event with 31.50 meters. Beaver took 11th in the shot put at 10.82 meters. 

The 4x400-meter relay team of Allyson Kopera (Hastings, PA / Northern Cambria), Jecenia Duran (Temple, PA / Olley Valley), Lauren Lock (Huntingdon, PA  / Juniata) and Britney Bridges (Plattsburgh, NY / Peru) placed sixth with a time of 4:26.02.

The Eagles 4x100-meter team took 11th with a time of 52.26 seconds. 

Juniata's distance runners recorded three top-20 times. In the 5000-meter run, Vanessa Hurst (Ephrata, PA / Ephrata) finished 20th at 20:57.10. Alyssa Cousins (Lemont, PA / State College Area) placed 16th in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:52.90 and Kopera took 16th in the 1500-meter run at 5:03.46. 

Erin Gaines (Hagerstown, MD / Williamsport HS) took 19th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.35. Maggie Pozenel (Croton-on-Hudson, NY / Croton-Harmon) was close behind at 1:16.83 and finished 20th

In the 200-meter dash, Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, PA / Huntingdon Area) led Juniata with a 14th-place finish at 26.93 seconds.

The Eagles will now get their team ready for the Landmark Championships at Susquehanna May 2-3. At the 2014 outdoor championships, Juniata took home third place.
