Track and Field take sixth at Messiah

MECHANICSBURG, PA – The Juniata women's track and field team finished sixth out of 16 teams at the Messiah Invitational Saturday.

The Eagles had three more athletes reach Landmark qualifying standards for the championship on May 2.

Jecenia Duran (Temple, PA / Olley Valley) qualified in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.34. Allyson Kopera (Hastings, PA / Northern Cambria) ran a 5:15.89 in the 1500-meter run and Kaitlyn Cosby (Frederick, MD / Frederick) finished at 18.44 in the 100-meter hurdles to reach standards. 

Haley Schneider (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) led the way for the women on the track with a second place finish in the 5,000-meter run at 19:37.39.

The 4x800-meter team of Duran, Vanessa Hurst (Ephrata, PA / Ephrata), Alyssa Cousins (Lemont, PA / State College Area) and Kopera placed second at 10:51.93.

Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, PA / Selinsgrove Area) took fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 37.09m. Thalia Chance-Chin (Tampa Bay, FL / Tampa Prep) placed tenth.

Kylie Berrena (Petersburg, PA / Juniata Valley) finished eight in the javelin throw at 31.09m.

In the triple jump, Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, PA / Huntingdon Area) took eight at 9.64m and Cosby finished tenth at 9.36m.

Katelyn Fisher (Rochester, NY / Greece Athena) finished fourth in the long jump at 4.89m. Fischer also took fourth in the high jump at 1.53m.

The final top-10 performance in the field came from Abigail Rosenberger (Duncannon, PA / Susquenita), who placed seventh in the pole vault. 

The Eagles head to Shippensburg Wednesday, April 15 for their next meet.
