Track and Field Records Six Top-5 Finishes at Frostburg

FROSTBURG, MD – The Juniata women's track and field team recorded six top-5 finishes at the Frostburg State Bobcat Invitational Saturday April 4.

The sprinters paved the way for the Eagles. Freshman Cheyenne Brown (Tunkhannock, PA / Tunkhannock) finished fourth in the 100-meter dash at 13.79 seconds. Senior Alyssa Cousins (Lemont, PA / State College Area) recorded two top-5 finishes, both in the 800-meter run and the 1500-meter run. Cousins placed fifth in the 800-meter at 2:47.13 and fourth in the 1500-meter at 5:29.58. 

Also placing top-10 for Juniata in the 1500-meter run was junior Jecenia Duran (Temple, PA / Olley Valley) in eighth at 5:42.66. 

The final athlete to place in the track events was junior Erin Gaines (Hagerstown, MD / Williamsport HS) in the 100-meter hurdles. Gaines finished in ninth with a time of 17.91.

In the long jump, Brown finished second with a leap of 4.86 meters. 

The Eagles had two athletes place top-5 in the hammer throw. Senior Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, PA / Selinsgrove Area) won the event with a final toss of 34.74 meters. Beaver was accompanied by fellow-senior Thalia Chance-Chin (Tampa Bay, FL / Tampa Prep), who placed fifth at 26.94 meters.

Juniata track and field travels to Grantham, PA next weekend for the Messiah Invitational.
