Track Teams Compete at Jim Taylor Invite

SELINSGROVE, PA- The Juniata men's and women's track and field teams participated at the Jim Taylor Invitational that was hosted by Susquehanna on Sunday. Both the men and women had several top 10 times.

 

On the men's side, the highest result came from Matt Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) who placed second in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:27.04. Conor Dimond (Summerhill, PA/Forest Hills) placed fifth in a time of 15:47.59 and Kevin Schofield (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) was 10th in 16:21.32. Matt's brother Steven was third in the 800 meter run with a final time of 2:02.10.

 

Davon Jackson (Deptford, NJ/Deptford Township) came in eighth in the 200-meter dash (24.99). Ben Martin (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) (4:25.19) had a 10th place finish in the 1,500 meter run.  The 4x400 relay team of Jackson, Steven Guetzlaff, Ben Martin (New Hollans, PA/Garden Spot), and Nathan Chavis (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) turned in a third place time of 3:49.28.

 

For the women, Katelyn Fisher (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Erin Gaines (Hagerstown, MD/Williamsport) had the highest finishes. Gaines was third in the 100-meter hurdles with a final time of 17.61 while Fisher was third in the high jump with a measure of 1.47 meters.

 

Both the 200-meter dash and the long jump had four top 10 results. In the 200-meter dash, Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon Area) was fifth (27.94), Lauren Lock (Huntingdon, PA/Juniata) was eighth (29.49), Maggie Pozenel (Croton-on-Hudson, NY/Croton Harmon) was ninth (30.38) and Britney Bridges (Plattsburgh, NY/Peru) was 10th (30.82). In the long jump, Sellers came in fifth (4.83 meters), Fisher sixth (4.79 meters), Cheyenne Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) eighth (4.35 meters), and Katy Leamer (Altoona, PA/Bellwood-Antis) ninth (4.11 meters). Brown was also ninth in the 100-meter dash (14.24).

 

The triple jump saw three top 10 times posted. Sellers was fifth (9.86 meters), Leamer sixth (9.28 meters), and Pozenel seventh (9.04 meters). The 400-meter dash saw Lock come in eighth (1:07.28), and Bridges place ninth (1:09.76). The 4x400 relay team of Jecenia Duran (Temple, PA/Oley Valley), Lock, Gaines, and Bridges came in second with a time of 4:55.37.

 

In other field events, Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, PA/Selinsgrove Area) placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 1.47 meters. Beaver was also eighth in the hammer throw with a measurement of 33.61 meters.

 

Both teams return to the track next Saturday at the Bobcat Invitational, which is hosted by Frostburg State University. The meet will start at 10:30 a.m.
