Track and Field Competes at Crusader Classic

SELINSGROVE, PA- For the second time this season, the Juniata men's and women's track and field teams competed on the campus of Susquehanna. Both squads had several top results.

 

For the men, Tyler Mandley (Altoona, PA/Altoona Area) came in third in the 60-meter hurdles for the highest finish with a time of 8.93. In the 3000 meter run, Conor Dimond (Summerhill, PA/Forest Hills) was fifth (9:11.66) while teammate Stephen Park (State College, PA/State College) was just behind him in sixth (9:19). Nathan Chavis (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) had a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.94 meters.

 

In the 800-meter run, Matt Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) was seventh (2:03.98) with his brother Steven coming in eighth (2:05.18). Other top results included Jaie Johnson (Reading, PA/Reading) coming in seventh in the 200-meter dash (23.80) and Kevin Schofield (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) placing 13th (4:55.42) in the one-mile run. The 4x200 relay team of Trenton Barnes (Hopewell, PA/Northern Bedford), AJ Hutchison (Loveland, CO/Greeley Central), Eli Murphy (Poland, ME/Poland Regional), and David Spayde (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) were sixth in a time of 1:39.84.

 

In other field events, Andrew Paterno (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) had a weight throw toss of 12.82 meters that was good for ninth place. In the shot put, Paterno came in 11th with a throw of 12.53 meters.

 

On the women's side, the best individual finish belonged to Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) and Katelyn Fisher (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena). Sellers came in fifth in the long jump with a measure of 4.93 meters. Fisher was also fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.47 meters. Fellow Eagle Cheyenne Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) came in 10th in the long jump (4.62 meters) while Fisher was just behind her.

 

Lauren Lock (Huntingdon, PA/Juniata) came in sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:06.10). Maggie Pozenel (Croton-on-Hudson, NY/Croton Harmon) placed seventh in the triple jump (9.27 meters). Alyssa Cousins (Lemont, PA/State College Area) had a 12th place finish in the one mile run (6:00.88). Allyson Kopera (Hastings, PA/Northern Cambria) was 11th (11:45.64) and Haley Schneider (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan) was 12th (11:50.91) in the 3000 meter run.

 

Both relay teams also ran good times. The 4x200 squad of Jecenia Duran (Temple, PA/Oley Valley), Brown, Pozenel, and Erin Gaines (Hagerstown, MD/Williamsport) were fourth (1:59.54). The 4x400 quartet of Sellers, Chelsea Chizmar (Johnstown, PA/Forest Hills), Gaines, and Duran were second (4:32.25).

 

Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, PA/Selinsgrove Area) had an 8th place result in the shot put with a toss of 10.55 meters. She had a 10th place finish in the weight throw (10.38 meters).

 

Both teams return to Selinsgrove on Saturday to compete in the Susquehanna Invitational.
