Gueztlaff Places 1st as Eagles Set Records at Highlander Invitational

Houghton, NY, Matt Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, PA / Parkland) ran the fastest time in the men's one-mile run as the Juniata College men's and women's track and field competed at the Houghton College Highlander Invitational Saturday afternoon. Guetzlaff was just one of several Eagles to earn a top spot in their event and set Juniata track and field records at the meet.

 

Women:

 

Katelyn Fisher (Rochester, NY / Greece Athena) placed third overall in the women's high jump (1.45m).  Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, PA / Huntingdon Area) finished 6th in the triple jump (9.70m) and 10th in the long jump (4.53m). Erin Gaines (Hagerstown, MD / Williamsport HS) completed the 60m hurdles in 11.21 seconds to earn 8th place. A team of Gaines, Chelsea Chizmar (Johnstown, PA / Forest Hills), Jecenia Duran (Temple, PA / Olley Valley), and Lauren Lock (Huntingdon, PA / Juniata) placed 4th in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:36.24.

 

Men:

Several men earned a place in the record books on Saturday. Guetzlaff ran the mile in 4:29.72 to earn the top spot, while Stephen Park (State College PA / State College) placed 6th overall. Guetzlaff's time is the 3rd best all-time in Juniata history. Andrew Paterno (Waynesboro, PA / Waynesboro) came in 3rd in the 35 lb. weight throw (12.44m, 4th all-time in school history) with Garrett Lavelle (Eden, NY / Eden Jr./Sr. HS) trailing him at 5th (11.63m). Paterno Paterno finished 4th in the shot put (12.25m).

 

Conor Dimond (Summerhill, PA / Forest Hills) ran the 5000m run in 16:04.41 to claim 2nd place in the event. Tyler Mandley (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) came in 3rd in the 60m hurdles (8.93s). Nathan Chavis finished 3rd in the triple jump (12.27m) and 4th in the pole vault (3.65m). 

 

Trenton Barnes (Hopewell, PA / Northern Bedford), Davon Jackson (Deptford, NJ / Deptford Township), and Jaie Johnson (Reading, PA / Reading HS) all finished in the top 10 in the 60m dash preliminaries, but only Barnes placed in the finals (6th, 7.41s).  The trio all finished in the top 10 in the 200m dash, with Johnson placing 2nd (23.42). Johnson's time in the event in the 5th best in Juniata history. Barnes and Jackson finished 8th and 9th respectively. Jackson, Johnson, Mandley, and AJ Hutchison (Loveland, CO / Greeley Central) ran the 4x400m relay in 3:35.19 to take 2nd place in the event.

 

The Eagles will continue their season on January 30th at Bucknell when they in the Bison Open.
