Women’s Track & Field Finishes Third, Picks Up Three Wins on Final Day of Championships

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – At the completion of the 2014 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy, the Juniata College women's track & field team finished third overall with 115 points. Moravian College finished first with 311 points and Susquehanna University placed second.

 

Senior Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) led the Eagles in points on the second day of competition. Woods cruised to victory in the 5000 meter run in 18:35.03. Woods also placed second in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:23.82.

 

In the sprints, senior Paula Pryor (Westbrookville, N.Y./Burke Catholic) had two outstanding performances. Pryor won the 400 meter dash in 58.44 to give Juniata its first ever Landmark crown in the event. Pryor also competed in the 200 meter dash, where she placed fourth.

 

Freshman Katelyn Fisher (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) successfully defended her indoor championship title in the high jump. Fisher won the event at a personal best height of 1.57 meters.

 

Juniata saw eight other individuals score points on the day. The Eagles' junior Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) and sophomore Sarah Rhodes (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) both threw season best marks to finish 4-5, respectively, in the shot put.

 

Junior Alyssa Cousins (Lemont, Pa./State College Area) placed fifth in the 5000 meter run in 19:37.43, beating her old personal best time by just over twenty seconds. Sophomore Erin Gaines (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport High School) placed in both hurdle events on the day. Gaines placed seventh overall in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdles. Junior Caitlyn Pingatore (Windber, Pa./Windber) finished eighth overall in the 400 meter dash.

 

In the triple jump, sophomore Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) placed sixth overall, while freshman Katy Leamer (Altoona, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) finished eighth. Sellers also finished sixth in the high jump.

 

In the 4x400 meter run, Pingatore, Sellers, Gaines, and senior Evelyn Edwards (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale) finished third overall.

 

The Eagles compete next on Monday, May 12 at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet.
