Woods Breaks Another Record, Women’s Track & Field Competes at Messiah

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The majority of the Juniata College women's track & field team competed at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday, while senior Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) continued to dominate at the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell University.

 

Woods competed in the 5000 meter run, where she ran a time of 17:12.54 to set a new Landmark Conference and Juniata record. This time met ECAC qualifying standards and is the 14th fastest time in the event in all of Division III so far this season.

 

At the Messiah Invitational, senior Paula Pryor (Westbrookville, N.Y./Burke Catholic) and junior Courtney Peterson (York, Pa./Central York) picked up wins for the Eagles. Pryor won the 400 meter dash in a personal best time of 59.24 and came in fifth in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line in 26.81. Peterson won the 10,000 meters in 41:58.10.

 

Junior Alyssa Cousins (Lemont, Pa./State College Area) finished fifth in the 5000 meter run in 20:03.28. The 4x400 meter relay team of junior Caitlyn Pingatore (Windber, Pa./Windber), senior Evelyn Edwards (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale), Pryor, and sophomore Erin Gaines (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport High School) came in third in 4:21.78.

 

In the field, junior Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) was Juniata's highest finisher. Beaver placed second in the hammer throw at a distance of 35.25 meters. In the high jump, freshman Katelyn Fisher (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) cleared the bar at 1.52 meters to finish fourth overall. Junior Kylie Berrena (Petersburg, Pa./Juniata Valley) placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 29.93 meters.

 

The Eagles next compete in the Widener Invitational on Friday, April 18 and Saturday April 19.
