Eagles Soar at Juniata Invitational

HUNTINGDON, P.a- The Juniata College Invitational was a success for the women's track and field program. Not only were there five first place finishes, but Woods broke a program record.

 

Senior Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa. / Mount Union) started off the meet by breaking her previous 1500m program record by 0.27 seconds with a time of 4:47.53. Woods also placed first in the 800m run with a time of 2:26.26. Junior Courtney Peterson (York, Pa. / Central York) picked up her first steeplechase win of the season beating out the Penn State track & field club. Paula Pryor (Westbrookville, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) placed second in the 400m run with a time of 1:00.08 and placed second in the 200m dash with a time of 26.48.

 

Freshman Katelyn Fisher (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) placed first in the high jump and fifth in the long jump. Junior Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) placed first in the hammer throw and third in the shot put. Freshman Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) placed fourth in both the long and triple jumps. Junior Kylie Berrena (Petersburg, Pa. / Juniata Valley) and senior Janice Jackson (Roaring Spring, Pa. / Canton) placed second and fifth in the Javelin throw.

 

Three recent Juniata alumni came back to compete in the invitational. 2013 graduates Angela Shaffer and Justin Clapper placed first in both of their events. Shaffer took first in the 100 hurdles and high jump and Clapper placed first in the hammer throw and discus. 2011 graduate Kenny Goodfellow placed first in the 1500 meter run and third in the 3000 meter run.

 

Juniata travels to Susquehanna next. They will compete in the Susquehanna Invitational on Saturday, March 29th.
