Women’s Track & Field Opens Indoor Season with Strong Individual Performances

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Juniata women's track and field team started the indoor season at the Orange & Maroon Classic hosted by Susquehanna University Friday evening.

 

Senior Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) won the mile in a time of 5:15.45, less than two seconds off the program record she set last season. Woods also picked up a fourth place finish in the 800.

 

Competing in her first collegiate meet, senior Paula Pryor (Westbrookville, N.Y./Burke Catholic) captured fourth in the 400 meter dash. She clocked in at 1:03.10, giving her the fifth best time in school history.

 

Junior Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) came in fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 11.26m.

 

In the long jump, sophomore Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area), a transfer from Susquehanna, came in fifth with a distance of 4.76m.

 

Juniata's 4 x 200 meter relay team of sophomore Shalen Perehinec (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), Pryor, junior Caitlyn Pingatore (Windber, Pa. / Windber), and sophomore Erin Gaines (Hagerstown, Md. / Williamsport High School) was fourth in 1:58.20.

 

The Eagles next travel to Bucknell University for the 16th Annual Bison Open on Jan. 31, with events starting at 4 p.m. The meet will continue on Feb. 1 at 9:30 a.m.
