Track and Field Opened Outdoor Season on the Road

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Juniata men's and women's track and field teams began the outdoor season at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Open hosted by Lynchburg College Saturday.  Senior Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) took top spot in hammer throw on the men's side.  While senior Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) and junior Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) earned top five finishes of their own.

 

Men's Outdoor Track & Field
Clapper won the hammer throw by 0.73m and went on to place eighth in the discus with a 40.02m toss.  Junior Nate Alter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allerdice) set a personal record in the 10,000m.  He finished ninth in a time of 32:26.91, nearly 16 seconds faster than his previous best.

 

Women's Outdoor Track & Field
On the women's side, Shaffer finished third in the high jump after clearing 1.61m.  Woods earned fourth in a field of 28 in the 800m with a time of 2:31.06.  Senior Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township) placed top 10 in the same race.  She crossed in 2:36.72 to earn eighth.  The pair also competed in the 1,500m, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively.

 

Both teams return home on Saturday, March 23 for the Eagles only home meet of the year.
