Juniata women’s track & field finishes fifth of 14 at Goucher Invite

TOWSON, MD. – Juniata College women's track & field competed in the Goucher Invitational in Towson, Md. on Saturday. The women placed fifth out of 14 scored teams with 53.50 team points.

Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) was the only Juniata woman competitor to earn a first place, as she jumped 5' 3" in the women's high jump to win gold. Senior Erika Brown (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) placed sixth in that event with a clearing jump of 4' 9". Shaffer also seventh in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.18 seconds and eighth in the long jump with a leap of 15' 8¾".

Junior Lauren Taylor (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) launched 8' 6¼" in the pole vault competition to place second. 

Alyssa Grube (Litiz, Pa./Warwick) took third in the 800m run with a finishing time of 2:25.86, while sophomore Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) finished the run in 2:28.40 to earn fifth. 

Courtney Peterson (York, Pa./Central York) ran the 5000m run in 20:21.52 to earn fifth in the event, while Alyssa Cousins (Lemont, Pa./State College Area) finished seventh with a 20:27.69 time.

Senior Kristyn Ginter (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) placed seventh in the javelin with a 104' 5" throw, and Jacquelyn Barnett (Walson, Pa./Punxsutawney) grabbed eighth in that event with a mark of 102' 7".

Freshman Chelsea Beaver (Shamokin Dam, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) threw the shot put 34' 5¾" and earned sixth place, while senior Evan Beatty (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) was Juniata's top performer in the discus with a toss of 99' 2" for ninth place.

Juniata next travels to Messiah College for the Messiah Invitational Heptathlon that will run from April 12-14.
